Cores, memory, disk type and capacity, network ports and expansion headroom worked out
from what you actually run — user count, database size, virtual machine count, growth
over the warranty period. Undersizing costs money in year two; oversizing costs it on day
one.

Racking and rail-kit installation, power distribution and UPS connection, structured
cabling into the switch, earthing and airflow. Done alongside the
rack and cabling work when the comms
room needs building too.

RAID & Firmware Configuration
RAID level chosen for the workload rather than by habit, hot spares configured, firmware
and BIOS brought to a supported baseline before anything is installed, and boot devices
configured properly — the boot volume is the thing most often left unprotected.

Hypervisor Deployment
VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V or Proxmox VE installed and configured — datastores,
virtual networking and VLANs, resource allocation, and clustering with shared storage where
the budget and the uptime requirement justify it.

Windows Server & Linux Build
Active Directory, DNS and DHCP, file and print services with permissions that reflect
your org chart, group policy, print and application servers — or Ubuntu, RHEL, Rocky
and Debian builds for application and database workloads.

Migration & Consolidation
Moving data, roles and applications off ageing hardware — physical to virtual,
old host to new, or several under-used boxes consolidated onto one properly sized machine.
Planned with a rollback position and cut over out of hours.

Hardening & Access Control
Out-of-band management on its own isolated VLAN, default credentials replaced,
administrative accounts separated from daily-use accounts, MFA where the platform supports
it, patch baseline established and update policy agreed.

Monitoring & Alerting
Hardware health, disk and array status, temperature, capacity thresholds, backup job
results and certificate expiry monitored and alerting to somebody who will act —
because a failed disk in a RAID set is only an inconvenience if you find out about it.

Documentation & Handover
As-built document, IP and VLAN scheme, RAID and volume layout, licence keys, service
tags, warranty end dates and every credential — handed to you as files you own, not
held by whoever installed it.
