How Veeam Universal Licensing works
- One licence protects one workload, and it does not care what kind of workload that is — a virtual machine, a physical server, a cloud instance or a set of files.
- Licences are portable. If you virtualise a physical server, or move a workload to the cloud, the licence follows it rather than being stranded. For a business part-way through a migration this is a real advantage over models tied to hardware.
- It is subscription-based, so support is included for the term and the count can move as the estate does.
- Different workload types consume different amounts, so workstations, Microsoft 365 users and file shares should be scoped explicitly rather than assumed equivalent to servers.
